Matt Dorman

Matt is one of our Partners at Mellor Olsson, and is the Managing Partner of the firm’s Barossa and Port Lincoln offices. He works closely with clients across regional South Australia, regularly travelling to support businesses and primary producers on the ground.

He is recognised for his expertise in succession planning, particularly for family businesses and agribusiness enterprises. Matt advises across the full business lifecycle, from first-generation founders to multi-generational families, supporting growth, transition, sale and ownership succession. He also works with next-generation leaders stepping into management or ownership roles, providing practical, forward-looking advice.

Matt’s practice integrates commercial law and Wills and estates, with a strong focus on aligning business structuring, asset protection and succession outcomes. He advises on corporate structures and drafts and negotiates a wide range of commercial agreements.

He also guides clients through mergers, acquisitions and business sales, managing due diligence and structuring transactions to protect both commercial and family interests.

A key focus of Matt’s work is intergenerational farm succession. He works closely with accountants, financial advisers and lenders to deliver commercially sound, tax-effective outcomes that balance the needs of all family members.

Matt also has significant experience in resolving complex commercial disputes, including partnership and shareholder disputes and trust matters.
